About City Hope

City Hope is a progressive and inclusive faith-based non-profit focused on providing a trusted gathering place for our most marginalized neighbors in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco. At City Hope everyone is welcome, respected and celebrated. City Hope consists of three programs: the City Hope Community Center, the City Hope Cafe, and the City Hope House

 

The City Hope Community Center provides a safe space to enjoy homemade meals with neighbors and participate in community building activities such as movie night, bingo and karaoke. The City Hope Cafe is a free coffee house for our neighbors providing fresh coffee, pastries, and resources in partnership with local nonprofits. The City Hope House is a two-year transitional sober living home for individuals who have graduated from a recovery program and are working on strengthening their financial, professional and personal lives in order to transition successfully to independent living.

Job Summary


This part-time position is an exciting opportunity for a relational and strategic fundraiser to make a meaningful impact in an organization with a start-up mentality. City Hope is looking for someone who thrives in a nimble, fast-paced environment and is eager to help grow an organization that is continually evolving to better serve its community.


You will be surrounded and supported by an enthusiastic, fundraising Founder/CEO, a board member with deep expertise in development, a couple of consultants (grants and special events), and a highly competent Development and Communications Coordinator. This dynamic team is eager to collaborate in deepening City Hope’s donor engagement and expanding its mission.


City Hope seeks a proactive, donor-focused, and detail-oriented Major Gifts Officer to strengthen relationships with major donors and cultivate new supporters. This role requires a strategic and relational fundraiser who thrives on building connections and inspiring philanthropy.

 

The Major Gifts Officer will play a vital role in ensuring meaningful engagement with donors by managing outreach, coordinating meetings, tracking donor activity, and overseeing stewardship efforts. Additionally, this position will support the development of a pipeline for engaged volunteers with the capacity to become donors, fostering deeper philanthropic relationships with City Hope. Working closely with leadership, this individual will contribute to the organization’s growth by helping to sustain and expand its donor network.

 

Responsibilities and Duties


Donor Cultivation & Stewardship

 

  • Work alongside the CEO to develop and implement strategies for major donor engagement.

  • Collaborating with the development team to identify potential major donors, guiding the preparation of  background briefs before meetings.

  • Independently lead donor meetings, collaborate with the CEO on joint visits, and strategically schedule and prepare the CEO for key donor engagements, ensuring timely and thoughtful follow-ups

  • Track donor relationships, touchpoints, and engagements.

  • Draft personalized thank-you notes, follow-up emails, and impact updates to maintain connection and appreciation.

  • Help coordinate donor appreciation efforts, with a focus on small gatherings and recognition events.

 

Development Operations & Support

  • Provide the City Hope board and its members with clear, compelling donor updates and proposals, fostering strong connections and collaborative fundraising efforts

  • Work closely with the CEO to manage key fundraising priorities and deadlines.

  • Develop systems to track and analyze donor engagement trends, helping refine strategy over time.

 

Volunteer-to-Donor Pipeline

  • Partner with program staff to identify engaged volunteers with capacity to become donors.

  • Support efforts to foster relationships that inspire deeper commitment and financial support.

  • Assist in organizing volunteer recognition events that strengthen donor engagement

 

Other Responsibilities

​​

  • Ensure all donor communications reflect City Hope’s mission and values

  • Collaborate with the broader development team to align fundraising efforts

  • Participate in City Hope team meetings and contribute to fundraising strategy discussions, and planning for 10th Anniversary (Fall 2025).

 

Qualifications & Skills

​​

  • 5+ years of experience in donor relations, fundraising, or nonprofit development.

  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • High attention to detail, with experience in CRM/donor database management

  • Ability to work independently while closely collaborating with the CEO.

  • Passion for City Hope’s mission and a commitment to relational engagement

 

Preferred Experience​

 

  • Familiarity with Bloomerang, or other donor management systems

  • Experience in supporting executive leadership in a fundraising or donor engagement capacity

  • Background in event planning or coordinating donor-related gatherings

 

Hours: 15-20 hours per week
Location: San Francisco-based preferred; in-office presence strongly encouraged to foster collaboration and relationship-building
Compensation: $65,000 - $75,000
